Game #10 Recap: BU 1, UMass 5
November 15, 2008 by Joe

Alex Berry scored two goals in the Minutemen victory
UMass wasted no time in taking aim at the target on the back of the #1 Terriers, defeating BU 5-1 at the Mullins Center tonight. Alex Berry scored two goals, and sophomore netminder Paul Dainton made 30 saves in UMass’s 2nd win ever over a #1 ranked program.
Special teams did not play much of a factor tonight, as the teams were whistled only 6 times. The UMass PK stayed strong, killing off two Terrier PPs, while the Terrier PK staved off 4 opps for the Minutemen. Boston University started the game off strong, generating 5 shots in the opening minutes while UMass could only manage 1. It was UMass, however, who would light the lamp first, with Cory Quirk putting one past Freshman goaltender Grant Rollheiser at 7:03. Alex Berry put what would later be the game-winner past Rollie at 11:21 of the first period, and UMass would not look back.
BU managed to get one back early in the third, but would give up a back-breaking fourth goal just over a minute later.
Pros
- Not too many to report here for the Terriers. It was nice to see Zach Cohen take advantage of his playing time to pot one. No shutout.
Cons
- From what I could tell (listening on the radio), BU just didn’t seem to have it tonight. Sloppy passes, and carelessness in their own defensive zone led to the loss.
- Rollheiser did not look sharp, absorbing his second loss of the season.
- Also, despite being able to apply a lot of pressure, the Terriers could not find an answer for Dainton. BU needs to capitalize on their opportunities as they had been doing for the past 3 games.
With the loss, the Terriers drop to 6-2-0 on the season, 3-2-0 in HEA. BU is in action next on Sunday, November 16th when Northeastern University visits Agganis Arena. Let’s hope that the Terriers display a much better effort than they did tonight, and right the ship once again.
