Game # 15 Recap: BU 1, BC 1

The Terriers and the Eagles met at Agganis for the first time this season on Friday, and it was a real barn burner, with neither team emerging victorious.  After 65 minutes of play, BU and BC ended up knotted 1 to 1.  John McCarthy got the lone goal for the Terriers, while Brock Bradford scored for the Eagles.

While the game may have ended in a tie, it was by no means unventful.  The first period was very much a “feeling out” period, but also provided all the scoring in the match.  Shortly after the midway point of the first, Brandon Yip received a nice cross ice pass, and got a good jump on Eagle defensemen Nick Petrecki.  Yip put on the brakes and pulled a sweet spin move that basically took Petrecki out of his skates and made him fall.  He then shoveled the puck towards the net, where a streaking John McCarthy found it and tipped it past Muse.

The lead was not to last long.  Just 19 seconds later, Brock Bradford received an indirect pass from linemate Brian Gibbons and walked in all alone on Kieran Millan, having already beaten Kevin Shattenkirk.  He shot it high, and buried it top corner.  Millan had no chance.

The remaining two periods were hard fought, with the Terriers holding much of the territorial advantage, as well as the advantage for shots on goal.  Both goalies were spectacular, with Muse and Millan each coming up big for their respective squads.  Muse was especially good, stopping 35 shots on the night.  In my opinion, he positions himself well, and has a very quick glove.  However, he also benefited from Chris Higgins and Chris Connolly (Crisco!) missing on wide open nets.

Parker was pleased with the way both squads played Friday night:

“I thought it was a fabulous college hockey game,” Terrier coach Jack Parker said. “Great game to watch, great game to be involved in”crowd was great, crowd was into it. In reality it should’ve been 5-5 instead of 1-1. There were so many great chances; it wasn’t like there was nothing happening out there. Goalies played great. Guys had great opportunities and missed nets. So, that being said, it’s nice to go right back at it tomorrow night.” - USCHO

The Good

  • BU showed that they can play with BC.
  • Brandon Yip was all over the place, an excellent game.
  • Kieran Millan stood tall when he needed to.

The Bad

  • Brock Bradford cannot be allowed to walk in like he did.
  • As a whole, the defense needs to be a little more responsible.
  • Can’t miss the open nets…

Yes, this recap is late, but BU and BC renewed the rivalry again just one night later… that recap to come soon!
