Despite leading for the first two periods of the game, the Boston Bruins lost in the shootout 1-0 @ Madison Square Garden on Saturday Night, snapping their 5 game winning streak.  With two important points on the line, the New York Rangers scored twice in the final frame to tie things up.

This game was a meeting between the #1 and #2 teams in the Eastern Conference of the NHL, and it lived up to its billing.  After a tightly contested and scoreless first period, the Bruins opened up the scoring midway through the second, crashing the net and getting off several shots before Zdeno Chara blasted a rebound past Henrik Lundqvist.  Dennis Wideman would add a second goal less than five minutes later off some hard work from Marc Savard on the penalty kill.  Despite being outshot in the second frame, but Bruins held a 2-0 lead after two.

Entering the third frame, the Bruins were on the Power Play, but could not convert.  13:55 into the third, Nate Dawes ruined the shutout bid by Tim Thomas (26 saves), off a nice play from Korpikoski and Fritsche.  Markus Naslund would tie the game with less than a minute left after the Bruins defense allowed him space to snipe a shot past Thomas with Lundqvist pulled in favor of the extra skater.

Both goaltenders would be strong in the shootout, requiring an extra frame to determine a winner.  Chris Drury scored the game-winner for the Rangers.

The Bruins are next in action against the Maple Leafs in Toronto on Monday.  Game time is scheduled for 7:30 and can be seen on the Versus Network.  Radio broadcast is on AM 1030.
